Libby's Beagle repeats; Whitefish boys win title

BILLINGS — The perfect season is complete.

Libby’s Ryan Beagle capped off an unbeaten season with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Whitefish’s Jack Oehlerich for the boys singles title at the Class A State Tennis Tournament Friday. 

He did not drop a set during the 2025 season.  

“We knew that setting the goal of not dropping a set was lofty, but the best way to push yourself is by setting high goals,” Beagle said. 

Beagle’s victory comes off the heels of his win over Polson’s Torrin Ellis in Kalispell last spring.  

“This one was definitely a lot more smooth sailing compared to last year and definitely more of a sense of relief with this one,” Beagle said. 

Oehlerich’s second place and fellow singles player Owen Erickson’s fifth place finish piloted the Bulldogs to the team title with 21 points. Stevensville finished second just one point behind.  

“Jack Oehlerich came in as singles number two got us a lot of points and Owen Erickson came in big,” Bulldogs coach Doris Puglisi said. “We called him the ‘money man’ tonight, because his match gave us the point that pushed us in front. 

“I feel they really did the work that we needed to do and it showed when they needed to do it. Everyone made their contribution and we came out on top.” 

Beagle’s performance helped Libby to a tie for third place with Havre at 16 points. 

“It's one of those years where it was so spread out,” Libby coach Kyle Hannah said. “Whitefish was able to bring home the title with just 21 points, and it was just a great deal for the Northwest. 

“It’s been fun as a coach to ride the coattails of this young man (Beagle), as a coach you couldn’t ask for a better young man to be in the trenches with.” 

In the girls team competition, Miles City finished with 34 points to best Hamilton (29). Whitefish brings home third-place hardware with 20 points. 

Leading the way for the Bulldog girls was Maggie Mercer and Camry Kelch, who finished third in the girls doubles competition after defeating Maggie Morris and Annaleis Sloan of Miles City. 

Liesl Brust placed fifth in girls singles after besting Ramsey Pryor in her final match. 

Bigfork also finished with a placing team as Taylor Howlett and Raegan Waller took sixth in girls doubles. 

In the other championship matches, Hardin’s Taiya Guptill and Johanna Limberhand took the title in girls doubles over Miles City’s Brylee Hager and Clea Rapson. 

Ciara Hanley claimed an all-Hamilton final in girls singles, defeating Tallulah Pinjuv. 

Havre’s Max Spangler and Carter Chagnon earned a three-set victory over Glendive’s Carter Amsler and Dylan Jolliffe in the boys doubles final.
