James “Jim” Edwin Coolidge, 79, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025.

Jim was born on Jan. 16, 1946, in Shelby to Edwin and Elizabeth Coolidge. He grew up in Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School before attending Washington State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Following college, Jim proudly served in the United States Army.

After his military service, Jim moved to Chicago, where he met his wife, Carla. Together they welcomed two children, Craig and Sara. Eventually, Jim returned to his home state of Montana to be closer to family and the rugged landscape he loved so much.

A true Montanan at heart, Jim found great joy in the outdoors. He especially loved spending time hunting and fishing near his family’s property in Polebridge — a place that brought him peace and a deep connection to nature.

Jim is survived by many dear friends, his son, Craig Coolidge of Missoula, his granddaughter, Avery Coolidge of Bigfork, grandchildren, Cole and Cadence Hunnicutt of Bigfork, his sister, Sara and her husband, Larry Martin of Hood River, Oregon, and his brother, Del and his wife, Linda Coolidge of Whitefish.

Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, love of the outdoors, devotion to his family, and the lasting friendships he built throughout his life. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
