LEGION BASEBALL: Lums drop first two in Missoula tourney; Prairie sweeps St. Maries

MISSOULA, Mont. — Kyle Johnson doubled to score Jack Pierce with the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning for Coeur d’Alene, but the Bozeman Bucks scored the final two runs, including a walk-off single by Cole Smith with nobody out in the seventh in a 4-3 loss in the opening game of the Missoula Mavericks Memorial Day Tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Field on Saturday. 

Tyler Voorhees opened the scoring for Coeur d’Alene with an RBI single to score Karsen Noffke to make it 2-1 Bozeman. Voorhees tied the game later in the inning, scoring on an error to make it 2-2. 

In their next game, Johnson drove in two runs for the Lumbermen, who fell to tournament host Missoula 9-4. 

Pierce had two hits and scored four runs for Coeur d’Alene (0-2), which faces Badlands of Oyen, Alberta and the Helena (Mont.) Senators today before concluding round-robin against Vauxhall (Alberta) on Monday.

ST. MARIES — Gavin Wienker struck out eight in 3.2 innings and also scored four runs for the Cardinals in the first game of a North Idaho League doubleheader against the Savages at the St. Maries American Legion Baseball Field. 

Alec Finn had two hits and an RBIs for Prairie in the first game. 

In the nightcap, James Morast struck out six in three innings and Finn drove in three runs for Prairie in the second game. 

Prairie (3-2, 2-0 NIL) hosts Moscow in an NIL doubleheader at Post Falls High next Saturday at noon.
