LEGION BASEBALL: Lums split, now 1-3 at Missoula tourney

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen notched their first victory of the season Sunday, beating Badlands of Oyen, Alberta, 15-6 in their first game of the day at the Missoula Mavericks Memorial Day Tournament at Ogren Park.
Later, the Lums fell 14-6 to the Helena (Mont.) Senators to dip to 1-3 at the season-opening six-team tourney.
In the first game, Mark Holecek went 2 for 3 with four RBIs and two runs scored for the Lums, with a three-run double in a 10-run third inning and an RBI single in the fourth.
Tyler Voorhees drove in a pair of runs in the third for Coeur d’Alene, on a triple and a sacrifice fly and struck out five in three innings on the mound.
Tanner Franklin hit a two-run double in the fifth for the Lums.
In the second game, Coeur d’Alene walked 14 batters and fell behind 12-0 after three innings against Helena.
Voorhees went 3 for 3 with a two-run single in a six-run fourth inning for the Lums.
Helena, Vauxhall (Alberta) and the Missoula Mavericks are all 3-1 heading into today’s final day of tourney action.
Coeur d’Alene wraps up tourney play today vs. Vauxhall at 8 a.m. PDT at Lindborg-Cregg Memorial Field.
