LEGION BASEBALL: Lums finish 1-4 at season-opening tourney

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen fell 11-3 to the Vauxhall (Alberta) Jets on Monday to wrap up play at the season-opening Missoula Mavericks Memorial Day Tournament at Lindborg-Cregg Memorial Field. 

Tristan Usdrowski singled in Jack Pierce, who had walked, to give Coeur d’Alene (1-4) a 1-0 in the top of the first inning. 

The Jets answered with eight runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Kaleb Bozek’s three-run double. 

Dylan Cook tripled and Hunter Avriette singled him in for the Lums in the second.  

Andy Everson tripled in the fourth and scored on an error on the same play for Coeur d’Alene in the fourth.  

Graham Thiessen struck out nine in five innings for Vauxhall (40-15-1), which went on to beat the host Missoula Mavericks 9-3 in the championship game. 

Coeur d’Alene plays host to the Spokane Cannons on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Thorco Field. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 5:30.
