Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 months, 4 weeks AGO
Clyde Quinton Webb, 76, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away peacefully May 11, 2025.
He was born July 1, 1948, to Alton and Betty Webb in Norfolk, Va. When he was in grade school in Hendersonville, N.C., his family moved to Watsonville, Calif. There, he graduated from high school and then enlisted in the Navy at age 17.
He was a natural for Morse code, having a musical background, so the Navy made him a Radioman. He loved it and radio became his lifetime passion. He was chief of radio operations on many large ships and two aircraft carriers. He traveled the world with the Navy. He advanced quickly through the ranks to become chief warrant officer and finally commissioned, attaining the rank of 0-5, full commander. He was the commander of the Diego Garcia Base during the Gulf War. He did two tours of duty in Vietnam on river boats. He received several awards during his 31 years of service, including “Sailor of the Year” in the Pacific Theater. The Navy allowed him the opportunity to pursue higher education, so he got his BS degree at San Diego State University.
In 1968, he married Cecilia Fedora, and they had two sons, Tommy and Geoff. They later divorced. After 40 years, he reconnected with his lost love, Donna. He moved to Idaho in 2011 to marry her. Together they enjoyed traveling, boating, friends and their dog, Tessa. He loved dogs and had many during his lifetime.
Quint had many talents. He was a gifted musician playing piano and guitar. He sang in choirs and had jam sessions with other musicians. He was also very athletic. He excelled at baseball; he wanted to become a professional baseball player, but an injury in the war changed that. He played golf, was a champion bowler, surfed, scuba dived, and fished. He was also a marathon runner, having completed 10.
He worked for the State Department after leaving the Navy and traveled the world. He also drove 18-wheeler trucks for two years just to see the USA!
He was an active member of the KARS radio club in Post Falls since 2011. He never left his love of CW radio.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Tom Webb of Signal Hill, Calif.; Geoff Webb of Rolling Hills, Calif.; and grandson Luc; brother Gary Webb (wife Mary) of Hampstead, N.C.; many nieces and nephews; his stepdaughters, Angela Meliza of Rathdrum, Idaho; and Laurie Dahmen of Spokane, Wash.; stepson Greg Dahmen (wife Dorthy) of Moscow, Idaho; and his best friend, Frank Krugg of Post Falls, Idaho.
A memorial service will be announced for a later time, and as per Quint, “Don’t be late!”
Yates Funeral Home has been entrusted with the care of the final arrangements. Quint will be buried at sea in the Atlantic Ocean by the Navy with a burial at sea ceremony. Please visit Quint’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
