Matthew Ray Peterson, 51
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 10 months, 4 weeks AGO
Matthew was born in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on March 5, 1974, to Beverly (Yager) Peterson and Fritz Oscar Peterson. Matthew was their only child. He was a gift to his parents and is and will be missed every day.
Matthew passed away early in the morning at 3 a.m. March 22, 2025. He died at hospice on the same date, time and place as his grandpa, Don Yager.
Matthew grew up in Post Falls, Idaho, attending Post Falls schools. He graduated in 1992. In junior high and high school, he was very involved in the band. He got a trophy and lettered in band. He played the trumpet throughout his four years at North Idaho College, as well. His mother and grandma Yager never missed a concert.
At North Idaho College, he got his degree in graphic design and business. He was not able to find work after school, so he went to work for his Grandpa Yager as a carpenter/remodeler. Matthew went to work for Sheenago Screen Printing. He worked there for about 20 years. He then went to work for Amazon and loved it.
Matthew had many hobbies and some very close friends who enjoyed the same hobbies. He also enjoyed going to rock concerts, movies and comic-cons. Most of all, he loved reading, writing short stories and was a natural-born artist.
Matthew is survived by his mother, father and Mia, the family dog, his great-uncle, Harold Rudolph, great-aunt Delores (Rudolph) Iverson, great-aunt Barbara Rudolph, uncle Don Ray Yager, uncle Don Peterson and many cousins.
A service will be held at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, celebrating his life May 31 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
Last but not least, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to Bryan Settle and Matt Nuell. These two friends of Matthew’s took him to movies and bookstores. The two of them made his last month happy and gave him a reason to live.
