Rite Aid now plans to close 2 more Idaho stores. Here’s why — and where

Rite Aid plans to close two more Idaho stores as part of the company’s bankruptcy proceedings.
The drugstore chain received approval to close its stores in Caldwell and McCall, as well as about 150 additional stores nationwide, according to a court document filed Friday in federal bankruptcy court in New Jersey.
The front end of the Caldwell store will close Thursday, June 12, but its pharmacy will close a little sooner, on Thursday, June 5, a Rite Aid spokesperson told the Idaho Statesman on Tuesday. The McCall store will close Wednesday, June 11, but its pharmacy will close a week earlier on Wednesday, June 4.
The company is expected to sell its remaining stores in Idaho to another pharmacy operator, including two on State Street in Boise and one apiece in Lewiston, Moscow, Coeur d’Alene and Hayden. Those stores will likely go to CVS Pharmacy, according to a news release May 15.
The Boise stores are at 1515 W. State St. and 7020 W. State St.
Rite Aid said in the release that it had entered into a series of sale and pharmacy services transition agreements for over 1,000 stores across the country. The company said many of its stores in Idaho, Oregon and Washington would go to CVS Pharmacy. The stores will remain open during the transition, the announcement said.
“Customers can continue to access their pharmacy services, including prescription refills and immunizations, without interruption,” the news release said.
The company has closed several “underperforming” stores in the Boise area in the last few years since it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2023.
The document filed Friday said a bankruptcy judge granted Rite Aid approval to sell assets from the closing stores so long as the assets are free of any liens or other claims.
Rite Aid now operates 1,239 stores around the country, according to its website. About a year before the bankruptcy filing, it had 2,452 stores in the U.S., the Internet archive shows.
