Authorities say a 22-year-old Kalispell man repeatedly stabbed his mother in the head with a plastic pen earlier this month.

Prosecutors brought Daniel Kenneth Meyer Jr. up on one count of assault with a weapon in Flathead County District Court following the alleged May 9 attack on Jellison Road. He is expected to appear before Judge Heidi Ulbricht on May 29 for his arraignment on the felony charge.

Responding Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies found a man and a bloodied woman at the intersection of Jellison Road and U.S. 2 about 12:42 p.m., May 9, according to court documents. Deputies described the woman as crying and clutching a towel to her head. She had blood on her face and body, according to court documents.

The pair told investigators that the victim's son, who they identified as Meyer, lived in a trailer near her home. She was in her bedroom that day when Meyer entered. He refused to leave at her request and then allegedly leapt at her armed with the writing tool.

The victim told authorities she was unsure of how many times Meyer stabbed her but remembered pulling bits of the broken pen from her head, according to court documents.

The man accompanying the victim said that he began shoving Meyer until the 22-year-old left the home. But Meyer allegedly returned with a pipe and tried to force his way back inside. After he gave up and left, the pair phoned emergency responders, court documents said.

Deputies found Meyer outside of his home and arrested him. Meyer declined to speak with investigators, according to court documents.

Assault with a weapon is punishable by up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine.
