SANDPOINT — An Oklahoma man is being held at Bonner County Jail on charges related to an alleged sexual abuse incident.
Joshua Charles Snyder, 32, was arrested May 14 for allegedly raping and abusing an 18-year-old girl from Sandpoint.
Snyder is charged with rape for using force or violence to overcome the victim’s resistance and attempted strangulation for placing both of his hands around the victim, making it difficult for her to breathe. Snyder could face up to life in prison and/or a $100,000 fine.
A probable cause affidavit shows that Bonner County deputies became aware of the incident after the victim’s mother called 911, alleging that Snyder had sexually assaulted her daughter.
While most of the details in this case are redacted due to sensitivity, court documents indicate that the crime occurred in the early morning of April 19, when Snyder and the victim were partaking in consensual sexual activities until the victim requested Snyder stop due to pain. Documents further indicate that after the request, Snyder allegedly “threatened to hold her down” during sexual activity because "no one tells him no.”
Investigation reports allege that the victim experienced abuse and injuries from Snyder, but did not specify how the injuries occurred or when. Reports allege that Snyder was intoxicated on the night of the incident.
A probable cause affidavit shows a text thread between Snyder and the victim that occurred after the abuse, to which Snyder wrote the victim “I’m sorry if I did anything to hurt you I don’t remember much,” and “I'm so sorry.”
A Bonner County arrest warrant was issued April 25 in the amount of $250,000. Three days later, Bonner County Sheriff’s Department published a press release via social media which asked for the community’s assistance in locating Snyder. The press release indicated that Snyder was originally from Oklahoma but had been in town for a construction/renovation job.
Snyder was then arrested May 14. He is scheduled to appear in court June 5 for an arraignment.
