COEUR d’ALENE — A man who threatened to shoot his former girlfriend will spend time in prison, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Greg A. Marson, 65, of Post Falls, pleaded guilty in March to aggravated assault, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Idaho law allows for an extended maximum prison sentence in cases where a firearm or deadly weapon is involved in the commission of the offense.

First District Judge Scott Wayman sentenced Marson this week to seven years in prison with parole eligibility after two years.

The charges stem from last August, when prosecutors said Marson pointed a handgun at the woman he was dating and threatened to shoot her and then himself.

Marson fired a round into the ceiling above where the woman was standing before fleeing the scene, according to prosecutors. Police located and arrested him several days later.

A grand jury indicted Marson on the aggravated assault charge in September 2024.
