COEUR d’ALENE — A man who pleaded guilty to numerous instances of driving under the influence was placed on probation after violating the terms of an earlier probation, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Zachery T. Nosworthy, 39, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence eight times over a period of 15 years. The DUI offenses occurred in Kootenai, Shoshone and Benewah counties, according to court records. 

When Nosworthy pleaded guilty to felony DUI in 2020, a judge sentenced him to 10 years in prison, the maximum possible penalty. Because Nosworthy was engaged in a rehabilitation-based program at the time of sentencing, prosecutors said, the judge suspended the prison sentence and placed Nosworthy on probation for four years. 

Nosworthy violated the terms of his probation in 2021, according to the prosecutor’s office, when he pleaded guilty to a new felony DUI charge. He received another 10-year prison sentence, though the judge opted to retain jurisdiction in the case and place him in a prison treatment program, also called a rider, for up to a year. Seven months later, prosecutors said Nosworthy was placed on probation for another four years. 

Prosecutors said Nosworthy violated the terms of his probation again in 2024, for which he served 30 days in jail, and committed another violation in 2025. After the latter violation, Nosworthy’s probation was revoked and he was placed on a second rider.  

“Despite a good report from the Department of Correction, the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office recommended that Nosworthy remain in prison for the remainder of his sentences,” said a news release issued by the prosecutor’s office. 

Nosworthy has been released onto a new three-year period of probation, prosecutors said, with a requirement that he complete an outpatient treatment program.
