Bobcats dominate in 55-7 win over UNC

GREELEY, Colo. — Justin Lamson threw for three touchdowns and ran for another to lead No. 4 Montana State over Northern Colorado 55-7 on Saturday for the Bobcats’ seventh consecutive victory.

Lamson’s 3-yard touchdown to Rocky Lencioni, Adam Jones’ 2-yard run and two Myles Sansted field goals had the Bobcats up 20-0 at halftime.  

Lamson threw a pair of TD passes to Taco Dowler and ran 24 yards for another score to break the game open in the third quarter. One of Dowler’s TDs came on a screen pass that he turned into a 67-yard score. 

Talon Marsh, a 280-pound defensive lineman, took a tipped pass for a 90-yard pick-6 at 9:09 of the fourth quarter, putting the Bobcats (7-2, 5-0 Big Sky Conference) up 48-0. The gap grew to 55-0 on a 2-yard touchdown run from Jared White at the 6:32 mark. 

Northern Colorado (3-6, 1-4) avoided the shutout with 1:31 left on Kieryus Boone’s short TD run. The Bears managed 261 yards of offense, 104 on the ground.  

Quarterback Eric Gibson was 19 of 33 passing for 93 yards; Peter Costelli shared snaps and was 5 of 7 for 64 yards. 

Lamson was 16 of 22 passing for 331 yards and picked up another 57 yards on nine carries. Jones netted 74 yards on 10 rushing attempts. 

Receiver Dane Steel had five catches for 58 yards and completed a 12-yard pass for the Cats, while his brother Brock led the defense with six tackles. 

Dowler, who absorbed a big hit in the second quarter, had five catches for 138 yards.
