Eureka overpowers Fairfield again in B playoffs

EUREKA — Josh Lambertsen and Rogan Lytle ran for two touchdowns apiece, and the Eureka Lions built a 33-0 halftime lead on the way to a 47-13 win over Fairfield in Class B football playoff action Saturday.

The win puts Eureka (7-2) into the quarterfinals against Red Lodge (8-1), which beat Townsend 34-33 in double overtime Saturday. The game will be Saturday at 1 p.m. in Red Lodge. 

Touchdown runs from Ayden Helgert and Lambertsen bracketed a 25-yard scoring pass from Lytle to Emmet McKim as Eureka rolled out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter. 

Lytle added scoring runs in 24 and 3 yards in the second quarter, the latter with 37 seconds left in the half. He ran 13 times for 131 yards and was 5 of 12 passing for 88 yards. 

On the ensuing kickoff Brodie Carper put Fairfield (4-5) on the board with a 90-yard kickoff return, and Eureka led 33-7 at halftime. 

The Eagles scored again on a 32-yard TD pass by Brock Pearce at 9:02 of the third quarter before the Lions got short touchdown runs from Lambertsen and Timmy Schmidt to close the scoring.  

McKim had three catches for 46 yards and had 12 tackles on defense. Helgert had 15 stops to go with 56 rushing yards on 15 carries. 

Lambertsen picked up 67 yards on nine carries.   

Eureka beat Fairfield 35-0 in a non-conference home game on Sept. 20.
