Susan Eileen (Martin) Bengtson, 80
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 1 month AGO
Susan Eileen (Martin) Bengtson, 80, went home to be with her sweet Lord Jesus on Oct. 21, 2025.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1944, in Glasgow, to Arnot "Fuzzy" and Mabel Martin. Susan joined her siblings, Marlin “Spike” Martin, Glenda, Crissy and Roger.
Susan graduated from Columbia Falls High School in 1963 and then married her husband of 63 years, Chuck Bengtson. They started their journey together on horseback while packing in Glacier National Park. Susan grew up riding horses and always mentioned how she missed her childhood horse named “Rocky."
Susan was a woman of remarkable wit and unstoppable grit. Chuck and Susan raised nine children together. Susan loved each and every one of her children with all of her heart. She was the best cook around and nobody could beat her banana cream pie to this day! She was a mother who deserved a gold medal in our book, a loving sister, daughter and grandma. She was known for her love and kindness over the years, taking in numerous stray dogs who quickly became part of our family, along with an occasional down-and-out person who needed a Good Samaritan or a friend to help them get back on their feet. She loved her music, loved to sing and listen to her children sing. Susan will be truly missed and forever be in our hearts. May the angels in Heaven be entertained by her uncanny sense of humor. She will have her son Wayne and family there to chime in, so it shall be a celebration with laughter to finally be at her permanent mailing address. Rest in peace in Jesus’s loving arms forever.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Arnot "Fuzzy" and Mabel Martin; brother and sister-in-law, Marlin “Spike” and Karen Martin; sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Glenda Price; sister, Crissy Dose; her son, Wayne Bengtson; her mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Winifred Bengtson and grandchild, Michael McClure.
Susan is survived by her husband of 63 years, Chuck Bengtson; children, Theresa (Greg) McClure of West Glacier, Michelle Bengtson (fiancé Jared Blackstone) of Scottsdale, Arizona, Lynn Bengtson of West Glacier, Bill Bengtson of West Glacier, Luke and Aimee Bengtson of West Glacier, Cheryl Bengtson of Kalispell, Faith (Marty) Martain of Columbia Falls and Suzanne(Luke) Warner of Whitefish; grandchildren Wyatt and Quinn Yerian, Colter Bengtson, and Natasha McClure; Susan’s brother, Roger Martin of Columbia Falls and many more extended family members.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Flowers or donations can be made to Stillwater Hospice and Palliative Care and Sunflower Companions. The inurnment has taken place at Darlington Cremation and Burial Service.
From our Mama to all our family, friends and all the world, remember to love each other. We will be setting her free in our sacred family place in the mountains.
