Brion Poston and Ron Smith were re-elected to the Bonners Ferry City Council as the city’s voters headed to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 4. Each will serve a four-year term.

Poston received 276 votes, or 35.57%. Smith received 225 votes, or 28.99%.

Adam Bertoldo received 150 votes, or 19.33%; and Tony Bates received 125 votes, or 16.11%.

A total of 405 registered voters cast a ballot. Boundary County officials said roughly 27% of the county’s 1,522 registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday’s election. Each voter was asked to vote for two candidates.

According to county officials, there were just over 100 votes cast from a combination of in-person early voting and absentee ballots. The in-person voting center was held at the Boundary County Fairgrounds.

A life-long resident of Bonners Ferry, this will be Poston’s second city council term. He is currently a member of the Boundary County Waterways Board and served as a member of the Mirror Lake Golf Committee.

Smith, who has lived in Boundary County for 47 years, previously was the Boundary County Sheriff and sat on the Boundary County Board of Commissioners. This will be his fourth term on the council.
