Ward was named the league's Coach of the Year for leading the Lady Spartans to one of their most winningest years in school history. More recently, Priest River, which finished their season with a record of 17-5, competed at the 3A State Championship tournament held Oct. 30 through Nov. 1 at the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls. The No. 4 Lady Spartans advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 defeat of No. 5 Nampa Christian (28-26, 25-23, 15-25, 25-17) before falling to No. 1 Ambrose, the eventual state champions (25-8, 25-13, 25-15), and No. 3 Malad (25-15, 25-18, 25-21) in a pair of day two matchups.
