Meet Kalispell artist Mary Knotts at Phillips Gallery
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 4 weeks, 1 day AGO
Phillips Gallery will host an exhibit titled, Moments in Time, featuring the work of Kalispell artist Mary Knotts through Nov. 29.
The public is invited to meet the artist from 5 to 8 p.m. Nov. 7, with an artist's talk scheduled at 5:30 p.m.
Knotts brings a creative perspective to her observations while painting plein air or in her studio.
"In today's fast-paced world, life is often chaotic. As we hurry through life, we frequently neglect to appreciate the present moment,” Knotts said in a press release. "Art suspends time. Being present allows me to interpret what I see and experience firsthand, and to bring that moment onto my canvas, I hope to provide viewers of my work the opportunity to pause and enjoy a moment in time ..."
As a self-taught artist, Knotts began drawing as a preschooler and enjoyed art classes throughout high school. It was not until retirement that she had the time and opportunity to pursue her dream of being an artist, with her friend and mentor, Tom Saubert, offering encouragement and critiques. She continued her studies in oil painting at Flathead Community College under Susan Guthrie and landscape painters Mark Ogle, Rusty Warner, Richie Carter and Kenneth Yarus.
Phillips Gallery is located in the Kalispell Center Mall, 20 N. Main St.
