PREP CROSS COUNTRY: Calderone, Miller set new BFHS sophomore and freshman record times at state

Six runners from Bonners Ferry High School competed at the 2025 4A IHSAA Cross Country Championships. Four of them set personal records. 

Sophomore Kylie Calderone set a BFHS sophomore record in the girls 5,000 meters, running it in 20 minutes, 2 seconds to break the record by over 30 seconds. She finished in 29th place out of 76 athletes and fifth out of 18 sophomores as the only girl representing BFHS at state.  

Freshman Brecken Miller ran the boys 5,000-meter race in 17 minutes, 21 seconds to set a personal record, finishing in 53rd place. He was the fifth fastest freshman at the event. His time eclipsed the 17:51 set by Jacob Perkins in 2011 to achieve a new record for BFHS boys freshman. 

Freshman Gordon Woelfle (70th, 18:36) and sophomore Brock Tuma (76th, 19:05) also set PRs. 

Senior Micah Thomson (79th, 19:59) broke the 20-minute mark and freshman Tyler Cordle (80th, 22:53) finished right behind him. 

Bonners Ferry was the only team in the boys 5,000 meters to have three freshmen at the event.

BFHS cross country personal best times

Boys 

Brecken Miller's 17:21 at state is a new BFHS freshman record. His time ranks 10th in BFHS history. 

Ethan Cowell ran the 5,000 in 16:38 at the Libby meet in August, which is the 5th fastest time in school history and fastest since 2022. 

Jonathan Bollschweiler's time of 18:06 is the 23rd fastest BFHS run and the fifth fastest freshman time. It was set at the Ben Castro Invite.  

Gordon Woelfle time of 18:36 is the 10th fastest freshmen time and is 37th best overall, set at the state championships. Brock Tuma’s time of 19:05 at state ranks 53rd all-time and is 25th among sophomores. 

Micah Thomson’s time of 19:29 at Thompson Falls is the 39th fastest for seniors. He is 39th overall from a time set in 2023. Colton Cohen’s PR in the 5,000 meters is 19:21, which is 62nd all-time. It was set last year at the Ben Castro Invitational. 

Carson Schutte 22:37 at district and Tyler Cordle 22:46 at the Ben Castro Invitational are BFHS’s 42nd and 43rd fastest freshman times.  

Girls 

Kylie Calderone set a BFHS sophomore record at state with a 20:02 run, breaking the previous mark by over 30 seconds. It is the 4th fastest time in school history. 

Gia Roemer’s time of 22:20 at the Inland Empire Championships is tied for 24th all-time and is 12th among juniors. Cheyenne Schutte 23:15 at the same meet is 36th all-time and 22nd for sophomores. 

Kya Alderman ran a 23:32 at the Ben Castro Invite, 26th for sophomores. Her personal best time of 23:21, set in 2023, ranks 38th all-time. 

Marissa Pruitt’s 25:06 at district is 25th for freshmen and 62nd all-time. Hailey Reeves’s PR is 27:22, 39th among freshmen. Kinzie Bradley’s best of 28:15 is 41st among freshmen. All of their times were set at the 4A District Championships.  

Abigail Huggins ran the 5,000 meters at the Inland Empire Championships in 25:42, 43rd for sophomores all-time. Elle Sheets’s best race was district in 28:36, 52nd for sophomores.
