SANDPOINT — Fall is in full swing with trees have turned their lovely fall colors and dropping leaves across the region.

That means it’s time for the yearly city leaf pickup, which Sandpoint officials said will begin Monday, Nov. 17 and run through Thursday, Nov. 20. The city is asking that residents leave their leaves unbagged on the curb by Sunday, Nov. 16.

"Please no branches or grass cuttings, loose leaves only,” Public Works Director Holly Ellis said.

Pickup crews from the city will make one pass through each neighborhood to collect the leaves. Ellis asked residents, if possible, to avoid parking on the street during the four-day period.

The city said that the pickup will vary depending on the weather, and that early snow could suspend operations.

Ellis said that there will be city crews out in the community managing any fallen trees throughout the fall, as well, but that week is the holistic citywide pick up. After Nov. 20, property owners will hold the responsibility of removing any remaining leaves from the street, according to the city.

In addition to the leaf pick up, Ellis said that the city is still hoping to complete the milling overlay project on Pine Street. She said the project was very dependent on weather and that all the concrete work has been wrapped up.

“Our window is narrowing,” Ellis said. “If weather does not allow, we’ll push the project to the spring, but we’ve got a couple more weeks to make that possible.”
