SMS tennis caps off season with district championship

From left, coach Kent Anderson, No. 1 Sandpoint Middle School boys singles player Adam Poulsen, and coach Kent Stadum are all smiles after a successful district championship last month that included Sandpoint, Ridgeline, Ferris, Mead, Coeur d'Alene and Lake City. Poulsen won an individual district championship, defeating an opponent from Mead, to help propel Sandpoint to a junior high varsity title. Just a couple weeks prior, Poulsen also dominated as the Bullpups capped off an undefeated regular season with a 9-0 win over Coeur d'Alene and a 10-0 victory over Lake City.

The duo also won matches by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 during recent wins over Lake City and Coeur d'Alene. Zephyr Favazza, not pictured, also won matches by scores of 6-3 and 6-0 against the Timberwolves and Vikings and helped Sandpoint to a district team title with a second-place finish in No. 2 singles.
Theo Jannsen and Wyatt Winther took home first-place ribbons after their fantastic finishes in No. 2 doubles. Coach Anderson said his entire team played "lights out" throughout the tournament. In addition, Jannsen and Winther won by scores of 6-0 and 4-0 and in their matches against Lake City and Coeur d'Alene leading up to the districts.
