The Mineral County Rec Club (MCRC) is once again bringing the community together for one of its most popular family traditions which is the annual Turkey Trot, now in its fourth year, set for Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 27, at 9:30 a.m. sharp.

What began as a small local fun run has become a beloved holiday event for both residents and visiting friends who want to "wobble before they gobble." The fundraiser benefits the Community Food Bank of Mineral County (CFBMC), which has seen an increased need this year.

While the traditional entry fee remains non-perishable food donations, organizers are encouraging monetary contributions in 2025.

“The food bank is temporarily storing supplies in four different locations during their building construction,” explained MCRC President Bessie Spangler. “Money is much easier to manage right now and allows them to purchase exactly what’s needed, but we’ll still happily accept food donations.”

Because of the ongoing construction, morning registration will move slightly this year to the old Wells Fargo Bank parking lot, now the HRC facility at 38 Mullan Road West in Superior. Participants are asked to arrive at least 20 minutes early to ensure a timely start.

Adding to the lighthearted atmosphere, runners and walkers are invited to dress up for the occasion.

“Costumes are encouraged but not required,” Spangler said with a smile. “We’ve seen everything from turkeys to superheroes as it’s all about fun and community spirit. Just remember, this is a family event, and well-behaved dogs on leashes are welcome too!”

The 3.1-mile out-and-back route remains the same as last year, walking/running along Mullan West to the 2-mile marker and back. There won’t be water stops, but participants can look forward to coffee and fry bread provided by the CFBMC at the finish line. Every finisher will earn a Mineral County Turkey Trot sticker, which is a perfect keepsake to display on their Brag Board. All participants are automatically entered into a prize drawing, with local businesses donating a variety of prizes, and more goodies are being solicited.

Last year’s event brought in $738 in donations and 266 pounds of food, thanks to nearly 180 participants and volunteers, including the Superior Volunteer Fire Department and the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office.

Supporting the fundraiser is Superior Town Pump, which will match up to $9,000 in donations made between September 1 and November 30 at their facility.

“Town Pump has been incredibly generous to Mineral County,” Spangler noted. “This matching campaign is a huge boost for the food bank, especially while they’re operating out of the Masonic Lodge on River Street until construction of the new food bank is completed.”

The Community Food Bank of Mineral County continues to serve the community every Friday during November from the temporary River Street location due to the government shutdown. December they will return to every other Friday.
