SANDPOINT — Valor Christian School recently celebrated the addition of two middle school grades at a community ribbon-cutting celebration.
With around 150 community members in attendance, the Oct. 3 event marked the official launch of the middle school grades at Valor. To begin the event, a group of students joined together to sing an a capella rendition of Psalm 117, led by Logic teacher Aaron Guyett. Speaking were principal Dustin Smith and board president Luke Patterson, and a prayer by board member Rick Howarth. After school leaders cut the ribbon and revealed the new school sign, attendees enjoyed a grilled hamburger and hot dog luncheon.
Launched in 2023, Valor Christian School has continued to grow roughly 100% each year, which Patterson said can be traced to a strong desire among Sandpoint families for a biblically-faithful Christian education.
"From the very beginning, our vision has been to provide our students with a high-quality education, steeped in the Christian faith, and enriched with the wisdom of the past," Patterson said. "Many of our families have come to realize just how important the fundamental basis of education is for their children. With so many other options available, we are glad to see so many families who value a whole-hearted Christian education."
Patterson added the school's commitment to biblical truth presents itself across all grades and courses as staff continue to "work hard to be both a safe haven as well as a catalyst of rigorous formation in Christian life.”
Now offering grades 7-12, Valor continues to build out its sports program. Having just concluded its fall girls volleyball season, Athletic Director Eric Thompson said the school's trap shooting team is doing well and Valor plans to expand to JV, varsity, league play, and add sports clubs and in-house teams to foster even more opportunity and community.
On the academic front, some of the most popular classes at the school have been in theology, logic, and rhetoric.
“Having almost 30 new students join the school this year has brought new energy to our classrooms," Valor principal Dusty Smith said. "Classroom discussions are richer and more meaningful, and it has been fun to greet our students each morning and to see how excited they are for another day of interacting with their friends and teachers.”
