PINEHURST — After six years of service in the U.S. Army, Jakodah Martin is bringing military-grade discipline and integrity to the auto repair industry with his new business, Veteran Garage.

Martin, who served as a specialist before his discharge, opened the full-service automotive shop just months ago. With more than two decades of experience under his belt, he said the decision to launch his own operation came after witnessing unethical practices in the industry.

“I saw what the owner was willing to do to people out of greed and I couldn't stand for that,” Martin said. “People deserve honesty, affordability and work they can rely on without any of the nonsense, BS or overpriced mark-ups.”

Veteran Garage, located at 706 4th Street in Pinehurst, offers repairs with a mission: to serve the community with the same values Martin learned in uniform. He credits his military background for shaping his approach to business.

“My military experience has helped me in my ability to make quick, confident, and effective decisions even when under pressure,” he said. “I was trained to persist, adapt and overcome obstacles and setbacks without giving up.”

Martin said his ultimate goal is to grow the shop into a larger space where he can donate time and services to those in need. He hopes to partner with churches and charities to provide reliable repairs to people who can’t afford them.

“I want to be able to give work away,” he said.

For Martin, the motivation behind the business is personal. He said he’s driven by a desire to spend more time with his family while making an honest living — and by faith.

“I thank God for helping me take the final steps in becoming a business owner, for never failing me and always providing for my family,” he said.

Veteran Garage is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekends. Customers can reach the shop by calling or texting (509) 968-1120 during business hours, or by visiting the business’s Facebook page at Veteran Garage.
