The Wachholz College Center is adding a new series to its lineup entitled Artist You Should Know.
This series features exceptionally talented, award-winning artists who are internationally known but not necessarily household names.
The series touts a variety of performers at an extremely affordable price as proof that unforgettable talent doesn’t require a big-city ticket. Past performers have included country artist Raelynn, Grammy-nominated bluegrass band Della Mae and a capella group Voctave. More recently, Gaelic Storm and Tallest Man on Earth were the featured performers.
Coming up on Jan. 15, the center hosts all-female salsa ensemble band Las Guaracheras.
Las Guaracheras is a powerful Latin music sextet from Cali, Colombia that performs Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as salsa, as well as music from the Pacific region of Colombia. Performed on vibraphone, percussion, bass, piano and vocals, the music of Las Guaracheras communicates joy, memory and transformation while encouraging listeners to dance, sing and reflect on the feelings that music inspires. Their compositions and lyrics revolve around the revindication and recognition of the role of women in the music industry, especially in the Latin music scene in Colombia, and seek to express the power and strength of women as sources of love, hope, resilience and creativity.
Selected to form part of the 2025/26 Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation Performing Arts Exchange, Las Guaracheras have been featured at U.S. venues such as Lotus Festival and Freight & Salvage, and in 2025, will be at LACMA Latin Sounds, Twin Cities Jazz Festival and others. They have performed across the globe in Europe and the Americas at venues such as Sunfest, Cubadisco, BIME, Portamérica Latitudes/FIMpro and El Zócalo.
Ticket prices start at $27.50, inclusive of all fees. A salsa and percussion workshop is included in the ticket price for those who would like to arrive early and participate. The workshop will be 5:15-6:30 p.m. with the main performance starting at 7 p.m. For more information about this show or to purchase tickets, visit wccmt.org or contact the WCC ticket office at 406-756-1400.
