Glacier falls, Polson wins at State volleyball

BOZEMAN — Glacier fell and Polson won a white-knuckler Wednesday at the All-Class State Volleyball Tournament at Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Makayla Coleman had 10 kills and six blocks and Kennedy Varda had seven kills, three aces and four blocks as Gallatin improved to 25-1 with a straight-sets win over Glacier in State AA play.  

McKenna Curley had an eye-popping 30 kills as Polson defeated Havre in five sets, including a 28-26 win in set four, to advance in the State A bracket. 

Gallatin def. Glacier 3-0

The Wolfpack, which lost 25-15, 25-15, 25-15, was led by Allie Kreuger and Avaieh Thomas, who had six kills each. Krueger also had one block. 

The Pack takes an 8-19 record into the loser’s bracket. They’ll face Missoula Sentinel at noon Thursday. 

The Spartans fell to Great Falls CMR in straight sets, part of a first-round sweep by the Eastern AA teams. Billings Senior needed four sets to top Western AA champion Missoula Hellgate; Bozeman High beat Helena High in straight sets.

Behind Curley’s 30 kills in Polson’s 25-22,13-25, 27-29, 28-26, 15-11 win, teammate Eliza Todd had 17 for the Lady Pirates. 

Curley also checked in with two aces and two blocks, helping Polson overcome three Havre hitters who reached double figures in kills. Katie Tilleman had 13 kills, nine blocks and 14 digs for the Blue Ponies.

Curley had 10 kills, but Frenchtown was too much for Polson in their winner's bracket match, taking a straight sets win. 

The Broncs won 25-15, 25-17. 25-17 to advance to Thursday’s semifinal against Billings Central at 6 p.m. 

Eliza Todd had three aces for the Lady Pirates. 

Rachel Walls picked up 11 kills to lead Frenchtown, she added 11 digs and a half block. 

Polson takes on the winner between Laurel and Dillon, who play in a loser out game at 10 a.m.
