Talkdown among the Tamaracks

The Whitefish Speech and Debate team hosted “Talkdown Among the Tamaracks” on Saturday. Students from 17 high schools representing Class AA, A and B schools from a large portion of the state were judged by 140 community volunteers for the home tournament, marking a huge success for the team.
Seniors continue to lead the team both competitively and culturally. Host week requires solid leadership as coaches are busy with planning, and the Bulldogs rose to the occasion.
The team honored Unity Loveless, senior, and David Losee, junior, as this tournament captains. This honor recognizes those who have represented a spirit of leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication during the lead up to each tournament, and are usually selected by the coaches. However, this award is particularly meaningful during home meet, as the students nominated and voted for the winners.
“Whitefish Speech and Debate thanks our wonderful judges who made it possible to hold such a large event and create a great early season experience for these competitors,” said Coach Sara Mueller. “Our judges left encouraged by what they saw in the next generation, thanks in large part to some great coaching.
“Every season, but especially at the home tournament, Assistant Coach Jason Brown and I are honored by the chance to work alongside many dedicated coaches.”
