The Wild and Scenic Film Festival is returning to Columbia Falls on Saturday, Nov. 15. The event is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Columbia Falls Academic Foundation.
This year’s festival will feature 10 films from around the world.
“You can experience everything from kiteboarding on the Egyptian coast to climbing the Italian Dolomites,” said foundation chair Kim Wortman, a local Realtor. “It’s going to be a great night for people to come together and support education in Columbia Falls.”
A complete film lineup is available at the foundation’s website.
The Columbia Falls Academic Foundation has provided enhanced educational opportunities for Columbia Falls students since 2015. Last year, they provided more than $21,000 for projects in music, culinary arts, speech and debate, social studies, extended studies, and library-book restoration at the high school and junior high.
This year, the foundation launched Play It Forward, an ambitious, two-phase project that aims to outfit the music program at Columbia Falls Junior High with new instruments and choir equipment that will benefit students for generations to come.
“Many of the instruments are old, worn out, or there are just too few to go around. On the choir side, new choral risers are needed for safety,” said Kate Foley, co-chair.
With grants from the Whitefish Community Foundation and the Flathead Electric Cooperative, the project has raised about one-third of its $65,000 goal for Phase I.
The Wild and Scenic Film Festival will be held in the Columbia Falls High School Little Theater at 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased by visiting the foundation’s website or Facebook page. The website is sites.google.com/cfmtschools.net/cfalls-academic-foundation
There will be concessions and giveaways. Festival sponsors include Columbia Falls Eyecare, Freedom Bank, OrthoRehab Columbia Falls, RE/MAX Mountain View, and Water & Environmental Technologies.
