Shoshone County election results canvassed

WALLACE — The Shoshone County commissioners certified the results of last week’s election during the official canvass Thursday.
Two elections had voting totals change over the past few days after a recount by the Shoshone County clerk. Those were the races for Wallace mayor and Position 1 on Wallace’s City Council.
The race for Wallace mayor had Chase Sanborn unofficially defeating Shauna Hillman 149-148, but after three recounts, the certified total ended up 149-143 in favor of Sanborn.
The City Council race between Katie Watterson and Courtney Frieh was unofficially decided 151-145 in favor of Watterson, but the certified total ended up 148-144 for Watterson.
According to Shoshone County Elections Supervisor Savanna Willer, a recount can be requested at county expense if the margin is less than or equal to one-tenth of 1% of total votes cast or five votes, whichever is greater, following the canvass.
If the margin is above those thresholds, a recount can still be requested at the cost of $100 per request. There is a 20-day window for any candidate to request a recount from the date of the canvass.
