ALL-LEAGUE GIRLS SOCCER: Mierke tabbed as MVP; Therrien, Hart receive IML honors
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | November 18, 2025 1:00 AM
ALL-LEAGUE: Alexys Mierke
A senior captain and four-year varsity player, Alexys, receiving accolades for the second straight year, capped off her high school career with MVP honors. The midfielder's ability to create chances for herself and for her teammates was second to none as she led the Lady Badgers to a record of 7-8, 6-4 in league play.
Coach's comment: "Alexys is smaller than most players on the field, but is skillful enough that she was often man-marking players more experienced and larger than her. At times throughout her career, she played through pain. She is passionate about winning and gave her all every moment she was on the field. She is a true competitor." — Coach Emily Winebark
ALL-LEAGUE: Madeline Hart
A senior captain and four-year varsity player, Madeline, receiving honors for the first time, showcased her scoring abilities once again as she led the team in goals for the third consecutive year. The forward was relied on heavily for the offensive attack and took the majority of the team's corners.
Coach's comment: "Madeline has a mind for the game and knows how to move the ball forward. She has also been a captain for two years, showing patience, compassion and encouraging leadership among younger girls. She loves soccer and wants others to love it too." — Coach Emily Winebark
ALL-LEAGUE: Nevaeh Therrien
A senior defender and three-year varsity player, Nevaeh, also a standout wrestler, captured honors for the first time this year after a successful season of shutting attackers down. Also a captain, coach Hart said the center back led the defense with good composure, maturity and communication. She also provided great timing on her slide tackles.
Coach's comment: "She was constantly aggressive and worked whenever she was on the field." — Coach Emily Winebark
