Mead star Wells Morrison signs with Vandals

Idaho women's basketball head coach Arthur Moreira recently announced the signing of Mead High guard Addi Wells Morrison to the Class of 2026.

The 6-foot Wells Morrison led the Panthers to the state title game her sophomore year, and was named to the All GSL 4A/3A First Team last season.

"I’m very excited to add Addi to our Vandal Family. She is a hard worker and has a tremendous defensive IQ, which will fit in great with our system and allows her to guard multiple positions,” Moreira said. “She has great size and passing ability and runs the floor hard. Her shooting continues to improve, she has an amazing work ethic, and is always in the gym. I think she will be a very good player in the Big Sky in the future.”

As a junior at Mead, Wells Morrison averaged 16.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game. In her school’s final game in the state tournament, Wells Morrison led the Panthers with 18 points. As a sophomore, she put up 12.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per contest for a team that went 25-2 and advanced to the state championship game.

She is the daughter of Ashley Wells and former Gonzaga standout and NBA player Adam Morrison.

Whitworth University (8-2) will host Chapman University (8-2) in the first round of the NCAA Division III football playoffs on Saturday at noon in the Pine Bowl.

The Pirates are making their third straight NCAA Division III playoff appearance and fifth under head coach Rod Sandberg.  Whitworth and Chapman will meet in the post season for the second time in three years.

Whitworth earned the automatic bid from the Northwest Conference after finishing 8-2 overall and 7-0 in the NWC. The Bucs will be playing in the NCAA postseason for the seventh time in school history.

Chapman won the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference with a dramatic come-from-behind 27-17win over Cal Lutheran on Saturday in the SCIAC championship game.

The winner of Saturday's game advances to play at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in the second round on Nov. 29.
