‘It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World’ at Movie Night at the Museum

Recently released convict Smiler Grogan crashes his car on a California desert highway. Before he dies, he reveals information about a buried fortune to a group of motorists who stop to help. A no-holds-barred race to the treasure ensues.

That’s the premise of “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World," which will be shown at the Nov. 25 Movie Night at the Museum. In this 1963 comedy, Grogran (Jimmy Durante) tells them the location of $350,000 he had stolen 15 years ago. A dramatic and delightful series of events unfold as each person tries to get to the treasure first.

Little do they know, they’re not the only ones after it. Captain T.G. Culpeper (Spencer Tracy), a policeman who has been tracking Grogan’s crimes, is hot on the trail with hopes of wrapping up his investigation. Who will be the first person to reach the money?

The cast of characters includes stars such as Milton Berle, Sid Caesar, Buddy Hackett, Ethel Merman and Mickey Rooney.

The movie starts at 7 p.m. in the Swanberg Classroom at the Northwest Montana History Museum, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. Doors open 6:30 p.m. Host and educator Jacob Thomas will provide prescreening remarks.

Admission and popcorn are free. Soda, water, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Seating is provided, but guests are welcome to bring their own.
