JoEllen Nuckles, a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully Oct. 8, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on June 8, 1954, JoEllen grew up in Kamiah, Idaho. After completing her education at North Idaho College and Boise State University, she served as a nurse, where she found her lifelong calling in caring for others. Over the years, she worked in several hospitals across the state.

JoEllen married her husband, John Nuckles, on June 27, 1987. Together, they built a life devoted to family, spending the majority of their years in North Idaho, first in Post Falls and later in Hayden.

Beyond her work as a nurse, JoEllen was committed to giving back to her community. In recent years, she volunteered her time at a local nursing home, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others.

Faith was always at the center of JoEllen’s life. As a Christian, her faith guided her life, from the way she cared for her family to the generosity she extended to everyone she met. Her love knew no bounds, and she was happiest when serving others or offering a listening ear, a warm hug or a home-baked treat.

She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as sewing, baking, tending her garden, walking through her Hayden neighborhood and spending time with family. She will be remembered for her kindness and care, her delicious cookies and her unwavering heart for others.

JoEllen is survived by her husband, John Nuckles of Hayden; daughters Ali Nuckles (Matt Raway) of Atlanta and Shauna Nuckles (Terrence Adams) of Austin; stepchildren Lei Lani Barela (Adam) of Colorado Springs and their children, Isaiah and Nyelah, and Josh Nuckles (Liz) of Goldsboro and their children, Kami, Lea, Dani, and Marilyn; her brother, Ed Elfstrom of Clarkston; brothers-in-law Gary Nuckles (late wife, Deborah) and Martin Nuckles (Ana); sisters-in-law Bonnie Salcido (Michael) and Anna Nuckles and many cherished friends and extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence Van Kleeck; stepfather Don Van Kleeck and sister-in-law Deborah Nuckles.

A private celebration of life will be held with family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Idaho Youth Ranch, an organization close to her heart.

JoEllen’s life was a testament to love, faith and service. Her gentle strength and generous spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her.
