Joseph R. “Joe” Johnson, 76, of Hungry Horse, passed away on Nov. 4, 2025, at Logan Health Medical Center in Kalispell, surrounded by family.
Joe was born July 23, 1949, in Seattle, Washington, to Robert and Francis Johnson and graduated from Rainier Beach High School in 1967.
He proudly served in the United States Navy from August 1967 to March 1969, receiving an honorable discharge. After his service, he worked for Glacier Disposal, serving the communities of Hungry Horse, Martin City, Coram, and the Glacier National Park area. He later worked in mobile home construction until his retirement.
In his younger years, Joe was a talented racecar driver and one of the best mechanics around. His love for cars and engines remained a lifelong passion. He also volunteered with local organizations and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others.
He is survived by his daughters Jennifer, Renee, JoAnn, Robin, and Sam; sisters Theresa and Mary France; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, two nieces and four nephews.
A Celebration of Life with Military Honors will be held Friday, Dec. 5, at 1 p.m. at Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls.
Joe will be remembered for his hard work, generosity, and unwavering love for his family and community.
