During the Ronan City Council meeting on Nov. 12, mayor-elect Ryan Corum told members that he ran for the post because he likes working with the current council, and he would not have thrown his hat in the ring without them.

In other business during the brief but productive meeting:

• Council members unanimously approved a reimbursement request for $118,960, and authorized Ronan Mayor Chris Adler to sign the necessary documents. This is the balance from the $2 million American Rescue Plan Act funds the city received for infrastructure improvements.

• The council also unanimously approved entering into a Geographic Information System Mapping Services Agreement with GIS Tec and authorized Mayor Adler to sign on Ronan’s behalf. The project will use $25,000 remaining from the water project to get started. The mapping project will create a paper and digital map of the town’s water and sewer system, with older information added to the new.

• They also approved an amendment to extend a water grant agreement with the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation for another year since the city is not quite ready to close it, and closed out a DNRC wastewater grant for $20,000.

• The Ronan Chamber of Commerce submitted an application for street closure for the Ronan Parade of Lights on Dec. 19 from 5 to 8 p.m., and it was approved. A chamber representative said volunteers will be posted on each block for the parade to provide crowd control.

City Clerk Kaylene Melton said the Montana Municipal Interlocal Authority will not be providing work compensation after the end of the fiscal year. She also reported to the council that she placed an ad for a half-time worker to help in the city office.

Chief Rob Jacobson told the council he has received applications for another police officer and is working through them to find an applicant who will fit well.

The next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.
