The Northwest Ballet Company presents annual Nutcracker production
It's the most wonderful time of the year, which means holiday traditions such as seeing a performance of “The Nutcracker.”
The Northwest Ballet Company presents its 37th production of “The Nutcracker” Nov. 29 and 30th at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.
Dancers have been preparing since mid-September, company director Marisa Roth said, noting how each dancer has “poured themselves into their parts.”
From the squeaky little mice to the radiant Sugar Plum Fairy, they've been working hard yet also having fun in their weekly rehearsals. The growth from September to November always astounds me and I'm so grateful for the supportive community who faithfully comes to Christmas-decked-out-Bigfork for our performances each season,” she said.
The cast of about 50 dancers come from around the valley and as far away as Eureka.
Principal dancer and Glacier High School senior, Marygrace Knuffke, gives her last Nutcracker performance with the Northwest Ballet Company as the Sugar Plum Fairy.
"These moments leading up to the show are bittersweet, but I know once the shows come, I'll be able to live it up. It's crazy to think that I'm one of the big girls now and I get to leave my legacy," Knuffke said.
Principal dancer and Whitefish High School senior, Milla Owens, who is cast as the Snow Queen, also described this year’s Nutcracker production as bittersweet.
"My senior year of ballet has been a wild journey so far, filled with growth, challenges and unforgettable memories...” Owens said.
On Nov. 29, a 2 p.m. matinee will be held, followed with a Sugar Plum Fairy Parade. A 7:30 p.m. performance will also be held. On Nov. 30, the show starts at 4 p.m.
Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $23 for people 65 and older and $17 for children 12 and under. Tickets may be purchased online at northwestballet.com or at the box office located at 526 Electric Ave. in Bigfork, one hour before performances start.
