Kayil signs with Gonzaga men's basketball
SPOKANE — Gonzaga men's basketball head coach Mark Few announced the signing of Jack Kayil on Wednesday.
Kayil, a 6-foot-5, 195 pound guard from Berlin, Germany, is a four-star recruit according to ESPN and 247Sports. He averaged 11.1 points and 6.6 assists per game for Germany at the FIBA U-19 World Cup, helping lead the team to a silver medal. In the gold-medal game, he recorded 13 points and five assists against Team USA. His assist average ranked second in the tournament, and he posted an impressive 2.88 assist-to-turnover ratio. This season, the guard will play for Alba Berlin of Germany’s Bundesliga.
Last year with KK Mega Basket in Belgrade, Serbia, in the ABA League, Kayil averaged 7.7 points on shooting splits of 39.8 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from three, and 88.2 percent from the free-throw line. He also contributed 2.8 assists, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game.
NIC to host Clackamas
in wrestling opener
COEUR d’ALENE — North Idaho College, ranked 11th in the NJCAA preseason wrestling poll, will host fifth-ranked Clackamas of Oregon City, Ore., at Christianson Gymnasium on Friday at 7 p.m.
NIC sophomore Ray Griffin is the top ranked wrestler at 285 pounds. Sophomore Hoyt Hvass, a Lewiston High product, is ranked seventh at 133 pounds. Paris Ruiz of Clackamas is ranked eighth.
NIC concludes the weekend by hosting the Cardinal Duals on Saturday at 10 a.m. and noon and then the Spokane Open on Sunday at The Podium.
