COEUR d’ALENE — A man received a prison sentence for his eighth lifetime conviction for driving under the influence, according to the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
David L. Walrath, 63, of Post Falls, pleaded guilty in September to driving under the influence. In Idaho, a DUI within 15 years of a previous felony-level DUI conviction is a felony with a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
First District Judge Lansing Haynes sentenced Walrath this week to seven years in prison with parole eligibility after two years. Walrath’s driver’s license will be suspended for five years after his release from prison.
The charges stem from August, when prosecutors said police pulled Walrath over for suspected drunk driving and Walrath provided breath samples revealing a breath alcohol concentration of .09.
Prosecutors said Walrath has seven prior convictions for DUI, including a felony conviction in 2011.
In exchange for Walrath’s guilty plea, prosecutors agreed to dismiss a habitual offender enhancement, according to court records.
