PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Sandpoint girls escape with win at Bonners Ferry

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 week, 6 days AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | November 21, 2025 9:50 PM

GIRLS

Sandpoint 54, Bonners Ferry 41

BONNERS FERRY — Jordyn Tomco got to the rim early and often, and it made a difference on Friday night.

The junior gave Sandpoint a much-needed lift, especially in the second half, as she netted a game-high 19 points and grabbed a team-high three steals as the Lady Bulldogs downed the Lady Badgers in a non-league game at Bonners Ferry High.

Junior Livia Driggs also stuffed the stat sheet, recording 13 points, including two three-pointers, eight rebounds and two steals of her own. Junior Brecken Mire chipped in eight points, two steals and two blocks, sophomore Willow Betz six points and a team-high nine boards for Sandpoint, which led just 21-18 at halftime before outscoring Bonners Ferry 34-23 in the second half.

"Supper scrappy game — a bit different than the game we played on Tuesday," Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening said. "The refs were letting us play a little more loose, which was an adjustment... Jordyn, especially, was finishing through contact and kept taking it at them. Livia had some big shots down the stretch. Our guards were consistently bringing the ball down against some really scrappy defense. Lots of learning tonight... we're excited to get back to work."

Bonners Ferry High junior Nollie Hiatt had nine points, a team-high five rebounds and a team-high four steals to lead the Lady Badgers. Junior Taren Bateman contributed nine points and three steals, freshman Jaycee Bateman six points and a team-high three assists, and freshman Bristol Hill eight points and three steals for the hosts, which dialed up five three-pointers and a three-point play on the night to stay within striking distance.

Senior Jetta Thaete added four points, five rebounds, two steals and two assists in the winning effort for Sandpoint (2-0), which will begin 5A Inland Empire League play on Dec. 2 when they host Moscow, who beat Post Falls 43-37 in their opener, for an always highly-anticipated matchup at Les Rogers Court.
