BOISE — Coeur d’Alene had to make the long drive to Boise to open the season on Thursday night.

Viking junior Brookeslee Colvin’s 94-foot drive in the final 10 seconds might have been more important.

Colvin took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the court, scoring on a layup with under two seconds remaining as the Vikings defeated the Boise Brave 50-48 at Boise High, in a matchup of two of the top 6A teams in the state.

“It was a good game,” Coeur d’Alene coach Stacy Boyd said. ‘We didn’t play well, but we pulled it off. Hopefully, we get better each game.”

Colvin, the reigning 6A girls Player of the Year in Idaho, finished with 23 points for Coeur d'Alene, which lost in the third-place game at state last year.

Sophomore Lexie Wheeler added nine points for Coeur d’Alene, which faces Owyhee of Meridian tonight in a rematch of last year's state 6A semifinals, won by the Storm 61-58 in February at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

Rylynn Ruffing scored 14 points for Boise (0-3), last year's state runner-up, which hosts Lake City tonight.
