Richard “Tex” Henry Hollingsworth, 78, of Hayden, Idaho, went to meet his maker Nov. 16, 2025, at Kootenai Health Hospital from kidney failure. Tex was born July 5, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, to Curtis and Opal (McDaniel) Hollingsworth.

He enjoyed many years of horse racing in Washington, Oregon and California, where he ended his career as a trainer. He touched many with his gift of understanding horses.

He is survived by his first wife, Wendy (Lance) Hollingsworth, and their children, Sherry Hunt and Rick Hollingsworth; his second wife, Carolyn (Honaker) Hollingsworth; his sister, Ruby Knotley; as well as four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Joe, Archie and James Hollingsworth; and his sisters, Sue Johnson, Margarete Phillips and Patricia Maness.

A celebration of life will be held Aug. 1, 2026, — details to follow later.

Emerald Downs (Longacres) will post a podcast tribute to his life Nov. 20, 2025, at www.emeralddowns.com.

Yates Funeral Home is entrusted with the final arrangements. Please visit Tex's online memorial at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
