SUMMARY OF  PONDERAY ORDINANCE 143R    This ordinance number 143R, “The Ponderay Bed Tax Ordinance”, was passed by the Ponderay City Council during a regularly scheduled and agendized meeting on the 17th day of November, 2025. The purpose of these regulations shall be to require hotels, motels, and other entities providing short term occupancy in the regular course of business to collect a ten (10) percent tax. This tax shall be imposed for a twelve-year period commencing January 1, 2026. The monies shall be held in trust until they become payable to the City of Ponderay. The tax proceeds shall be used for a variety of public needs, including but not limited to public transportation, parks, and recreation.  Businesses engaged in the lodging industry shall apply for a permit from the City Clerk. Violations of the ordinance may be punished as a misdemeanor with the possibility of a fine of not more than one thousand ($1000) dollars per day and/or up to six (6) months in the county jail. The city may also revoke the business permit. The full text of this ordinance is available at the Ponderay City Hall. Required: No open burning shall be allowed within the boundaries of the city except by permit issued by Idaho Department of Lands the Northside fire district commencing May 10th through October 20th and in accordance with the version of the international fire code in effect at the time of the application for a permit. Cooking/Campfires do not require a burn permit and may be burned after sundown. Cooking/campfires are required to be in a fire ring, or a UL approved solid fuel appliance. Cooking/Campfires shall be no larger than three feet in diameter and no higher than two feet.    Section 2.00.
