PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Coeur d'Alene rolls past defending champs

MERIDIAN — The last time they met, it was a heartbreaker for Coeur d'Alene.

On Friday night, it was payback time for the Vikings

Sophomore Lexie Wheeler scored 10 of her 12 points in the first half and Coeur d’Alene jumped out to a 19-point halftime lead and cruised past the host and defending state 6A champion Owyhee Storm, 58-39 on Friday. 

Owyhee rallied to beat Coeur d'Alene in last year's state semifinals.

Junior Brookeslee Colvin had 14 of her game-high 26 points in the first half for Coeur d’Alene (2-0). Senior Natalie Semprimoznik had 10 points. 

Coeur d’Alene plays at Mountain View of Meridian today to conclude its slate of three games in three days in the Boise area. 

Owhyee (2-2) plays host to Lake City today.

BOISE — The visiting Timberwolves dropped to 0-3 with a loss to the Brave at Boise High. 

Lake City junior Ella Pearson scored 13 points, eight in the second half. 

“Ella just played really solid,” Lake City coach David Pratt said. “We’ve been through a little bit and we’re trying to come together. We took some steps backwards and we’re relearning some things. But it’s a great group of kids and I’m grateful to be around them.” 

Lake City travels to Owyhee of Meridian today at 11 a.m. PST. 

Rylynn Ruffing and Nya Pellantlatham scored 13 points each for Boise (2-2), which hosts Post Falls today at 11 a.m.

MERIDIAN — The visiting Trojans fell behind early in the matchup with the Mavericks. 

“Last night I was proud of my team, and tonight I did not do a good job getting the team ready to play. We just came out flat,” said Post Falls coach Brian Carlson, whose squad trailed 36-5 at halftime. “Their pressure just got to us.” 

Jaya Felix scored seven points for Post Falls (0-4), which wraps up its road trip today at Boise High. 

Addie Lee scored 10 of her 18 points in the third quarter for Mountain View (3-0), which plays host to Coeur d’Alene today.

PLUMMER — The host Knights won for the third time in four nights to begin their season. 

Senior Kyleigh Wolfe hit five 3-pointers and poured in 27 points as Lakeside defeated the Viking junior varsity. 

Laila SiJohn added 12 points for the Knights (3-0).  

Chloe Murphree led the Coeur d’Alene JV with nine points. 

Lakeside returns to action Dec. 4 at home vs. Timberlake.

WALLACE — Senior Dani Henrikson had 21 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats in a win over the Wampus Cats in a semifinal game in the Silver Valley Tournament at Kirby Krulitz Court. 

Junior Jordyn Stutzke had five points and eight rebounds, and freshman Gretah Angle scored 16 points for Kellogg (1-0), which faces Troy in the championship game tonight at 6:30. 

“Jordyn had a great defensive game all around,” Kellogg coach Jana Nearing said. “She created some really good momentum for us. Gretah ran the floor really well and our transition game was right where we wanted it to be.” 

Clark Fork (0-3) faces Wallace at 5 p.m. in the consolation game.

HELENA, Mont. — Senior Chelsey Cate, who averaged a double-double last year, picked up where she left off with 26 points, 12 rebounds, five steals and three blocked shots for the Royals, who dropped a close one in their season opener at the Helena Turkey Shootout at Montana City Christian School. 

Madison Salaiz added six assists for North Idaho Christian, which wraps up the tourney with a pair of games today. 

Elle Simcindia led Great Falls Christian School with 13 points.
