PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Vikings pass another tough test in Boise area
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 week, 6 days AGO
MERIDIAN — For the third straight day, Coeur d’Alene had to find a way to finish a game on the road in a tough environment.
And while it might have gotten tougher with junior guard Brookeslee Colvin playing with four fouls the entire second half, the Vikings found a way.
Colvin scored a game-high 30 points for the Vikings, who improved to 3-0 on the season with a 64-53 win over the Mountain View Mavericks on Saturday afternoon.
“We got a little scare when she got her fourth foul going into halftime,” Coeur d’Alene coach Stacy Boyd said. “But all of our players stepped up and had her back.”
Colvin scored 11 of her 30 points in the second half.
“Playing the full last two quarters of the game with four fouls was a good test for Brookeslee, because she can build off that and learn to play in foul trouble,” Boyd said. “And it’s good for our players to learn how to play when she’s not on the court. That’s something we’ll keep working on.”
Sophomore Sabre Reardon added 12 points for Coeur d’Alene, which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.
“I’m proud of our competitive performance this week,” Boyd said. “It was a productive week for us and a great learning experience. We’re excited to build on this as we head deeper into the season.”
Senior Addie Lee scored 29 points for Mountain View (3-1).

MERIDIAN — The final 24 minutes of Saturday’s game might be something to build on for the Timberwolves moving forward.
But it was the first eight that was the difference against the defending state 6A champions.
Ella Pearson, a junior, was moved to point guard for the Timberwolves, and scored 21 points, including 10 of 13 from the free-throw line in a loss to the Storm at Owyhee High.
“We’d moved her to point guard, so that’s why it was interesting in the first quarter,” said Lake City coach David Pratt, whose team trailed 19-3 after the first quarter. “After that, she really turned it on and played well. Moving her into that role really settled us down. She made us comfortable, and she picked her spots as well.”
Lake City (0-4) returns to action Dec. 4 at home against Meridian.
“Our kids worked so hard today and it was good to see them give that energy as a group,” Pratt said. “We told them if we can come out and give that kind of energy, it will be a win. If we can clean up the mistakes, I think we’ll be alright.”
Aubree Hamilton and Jude Rampton scored 11 points each for Owyhee (3-2).

BOISE — Sophomore Annabelle Tucker scored 14 points for the visiting Trojans, who pulled within seven points of the Brave early in the fourth quarter before falling in the third of three games in three days the Boise area.
Junior Brooklyn Reese added 11 points for Post Falls (0-5).
“The difference between yesterday and today was effort; we played harder today,” said Post Falls coach Brian Carlson, whose team lost 58-23 on Friday night at Mountain View of Meridian, a game the Trojans trailed 36-5 at halftime.
Post Falls is still without its top player, senior point guard Kailey Walton, who suffered a pulled hamstring during soccer season in the fall, then aggravated it on the first day of girls basketball tryouts. Carlson is hopeful Walton will be available when Post Falls returns to action Dec. 2 at Chiawana of Pasco, Wash.
