Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 week, 3 days AGO
Dan White was an avid golfer, fly fisherman, wooden boat enthusiast, sports fan, music lover, joke teller and author. He published his first book of fiction, "Mystic Shadows," in 2022.
Dan died Nov. 19, 2025, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He was born in Ontario, Ore., on Feb. 21, 1950, to Albert and MaryEllen White, the second of their five children. He attended Payette schools and participated in many sports, including earning an intermediate Judo degree. After graduating from Payette High School in 1968, he fought range fires during the summer with the Bureau of Land Management, and each fall, attended the University of Idaho, earning his degree in business and marketing in 1972. While there, he served as the President of Delta Chi fraternity. It was in Moscow that he met Marilyn Ferguson. They were married in December 1972, a loving union that lasted 53 years.
Dan began his career with Procter & Gamble as a sales associate and then returned to Payette in 1975 to work with his father at White Motor Company, an auto dealership. He was very involved in civic activities and served on the Payette City Council for 12 years. Opportunities arose for Dan to utilize his marketing skills in the transportation industry, which included positions with companies in Payette, Portland, Missoula and Coeur d’Alene. Before his retirement, he was Director of National Accounts in the Air and Space Division of Bennett International Group.
When one looks beyond his career and favorite pastimes, people describe Dan as a kind, honest, quick-witted gentleman, with a remarkable ability to lift you up and to make friends wherever he traveled. He was a dreamer with a creative imagination.
Dan is survived by his wife, Marilyn; son Barry and daughter-in-law Michelle; brothers Wynn (Chiba, Japan), Jim (Marsing, Idaho), Pat (Edmonds, Wash.); sister Paula Johnson (Lake Oswego, Ore.); and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please remember Dan in a way you think he would most like to be remembered. Two of his favorite organizations were Canopy Village (formerly Children’s Village) in Coeur d’Alene and the University of Idaho Foundation.
A celebration of life will be held at Yates Funeral Home, 744 N. Fourth St., Coeur d’Alene, ID, on Friday, Nov. 28, 2025, at 1 p.m.
