Bringing quality parts from the basin to the nation

OTHELLO – Waters Tractor is a long-running local family business that started in 1980 as a tractor repair shop. Over time, owner Dan Waters transitioned to focusing on salvaging and selling tractor parts that are sold today all around North America.

“I always wanted to have my own business and do my own thing, so I was always doing it,” said Waters. “I wasn’t very big in 1980, but I just gradually grew.”

Waters has been working with different kinds of machinery since he was young and worked in his own father’s shop, where he sold motorcycles, along with spending time on the family farm with the farm equipment. Waters said his dad’s entrepreneurial background is what inspired him to start his own business.

“We stock a lot of new parts too, but our main bread and butter is more the used parts,” said Waters.

He said the shop will buy used tractors in any condition and part out the best pieces and organize those parts on shelves by part number for easy access. Customers who come in should be able to find any kind of used tractor part from something as small as a button to a full engine, and can have the parts shipped directly to them.

“We just had a few parts on the shelf to start with, and now we have literally about 10,000 parts on the shelf,” he said.

Waters Tractor not only sells tractor parts, but also sells full tractors to customers. Some of the tractors that come in that are of the rarer variety don’t get parted out and are sold as a full unit.

The addition of the website has since changed the way operations and sales of the tractor parts as around 70% of the sales made coming from online orders. Waters said this is due to the fact that now Waters Tractor is connected to a network called Tractor House and is part of the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association, which allows for tractor businesses across the world to find the exact part they are looking for.

“We ship all over and we get people out of the country sometimes like Australia, Germany and Canada,” he said.

This also works for customers who come into Waters Tractor, as Waters said, if there is a part they do not have, he will make sure that they find exactly what the customer is looking for by browsing the database.

“If we don’t have a part, we can put it on the digital database and find it within an hour or two,” said Waters. “Then we can ship it from them to us.”

Erickson looks back on a busy and successful four-sport high school career

WARDEN — A four-sport athlete is not someone you often come across due to the time and dedication it takes for success in one sport, but for Amaya Erickson, tackling that challenge was something she was up for in her senior season. “My family’s always been really big into sports,” said Erickson. “Both my parents have played and my siblings both play, so I guess they’re all a really great inspiration for me.”

Tigers start summer 3-1 after split with Sunnyside Christian

EPHRATA — The Ephrata Tiger Baseball Club (3-1) finished their second matchup of the season as they split a doubleheader with Sunnyside Christian Tuesday evening. “I was pleased with a lot of aspects of the doubleheader,” said Tigers Head Coach David Tempel. “The summertime is all about development and getting some experience. The good part about (Tuesday) is we were in some different situations that we haven’t seen much, so we were able to learn from those and use those to our advantage.” Sunnyside was the first on the board during game one as they put up two runs in the top of the second inning. The Tigers responded at the bottom of the third as they put up five runs to claim the lead.

Fletcher named new Eagles volleyball head coach

SOAP LAKE — The Soap Lake Eagles volleyball team will be under new leadership this fall as Erin Fletcher has been selected as the new head coach. She is following the successful tenure of the previous head coach, Nikki Noble, who helped guide the team to multiple state appearances over the years. “I’m so excited,” said Fletcher. “I’ve had the opportunity to watch these girls play the last couple years as a (referee). I’m really excited to be able to step in after Coach Noble and continue on that winning and competitive spirit that they’ve had for so long and kind of take it now to the next level.” Her love for athletics came from growing up in an athletic family of basketball players, but in second grade, she became the first in her family to start playing volleyball. From there, a passion for volleyball began to grow.
