POST FALLS — Lake City Roofing began in 1987 as a power-washing company run by Myron and Lisa Farrar. Brothers Michael and Shaun took over the business Jan. 1.
“I had worked on and off for them through the years. But I went back to work for my dad and learned siding and rock work and carpentry and all sorts of stuff,” Michael Farrar said. “Eventually, I took over the business aspects.”
Keeping a quality roof over clients' heads is their mission.
“It was always a mom-and-pop company with all of us doing the work," Michael said. "As the business started to grow here, we’ve really expanded from just the three of us to over 30 employees."
The company handles residential re-roofing, inspections, industrial, residential, commercial and high-tech projects throughout the Northwest.
Shaun Farrar manages specialty projects, including waterproofing, metal roofing and commercial buildings. He learned tricks of the trade by watching his father.
"My dad was the guy around here that everybody really respected and that was the legacy that we really wanted," Shaun said.
A third generation was added to the business when Michael’s son, Colton, became interested in working at the company after high school. He heads up the gutters division.
Over the years, the company's workforce has grown from family members to 24 staff members, plus outside contractors for special projects.
The two brothers have expanded the business with a second location planned on 2.5 acres in Rathdrum, in addition to the office and warehouse in Post Falls.
"We’ve grown a lot. We just outgrew where we’re at. We ran out of room and we needed something a little bit bigger to accommodate everyone," Shaun said.
