Sheriff approved for parts, medical service contract

SANDPOINT — Holding a majority of action items at Tuesday’s business meeting, the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office received approval of a variety of requests.
Undersheriff Ror Lakewold first asked Bonner County commissioners to approve the purchase of parts from Frontline Communication Systems to outfit three 2025 Chevrolet Silverados, costing about $44,987 total, or $14,995 per truck.
According to Lakewold, buying the parts from the company that has provided parts for the Sheriff’s Office in the past saves the department time and money in part selections.
“I went through, and spent about an hour, trying to see if we could beat some of these costs individually. It’s not just nickels and dimes; it’s by a couple hundred or few dollars on a few things. And so, although that’s a lot of money per vehicle, that’s definitely better than what we could do by buying each piece individually,” said Lakewold to county commissioners.
He further noted that most of the parts are related to technology, as most of the electronic equipment is not interchangeable between vehicles.
A medical service contract was also brought forth to commissioners, where Lakewold requested approval for medical services from Troy W. Geyman, M.D. for the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office of Adult and Juvenile Detention.
The contract, according to a memorandum submitted to commissioners, will remain in effect until September 2026 and will not exceed $51,400 annually.
Services provided by Geyman will include inmate consultations, on-site service and the Bonner County Jail and Juvenile Detention, in-patient hospital services, 24-hour on-call coverage, emergency house calls, assistance with nutritional arrangements and other medical-related needs.
“We see him and his staff a lot,” said Lakewold. “I think that he's doing this county a service by providing as much as he does for the cost that he's doing.”
The Sheriff’s Office was also approved for a three-year food service agreement with Trinity Services Group to provide food for inmates. According to a memorandum, the price reflects a 14% increase from the previous contract. Lakewold noted that the price, while expensive, equals about $3.21 per inmate per meal.
In other action items, the department was approved to purchase $20,670.54 worth of ammunition, which will be split between the Sheriff’s Office, Jail and Marine Division. They were also approved to dispose of an unused oven and floor planetary mixer that has been in storage for about 10 years.
