Beverly “Bev” Mae Sorensen, 91, of Columbia Falls, passed away Sept. 15, 2025. She was born April 29, 1934 in Viborg, South Dakota to the late Lester Richard Nielsen and Lydia Petrena Andersen.
Bev grew up on a dry land farm in southeaster South Dakota and earned her RN degree in Irene. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Carol. They lived for a short time in Thermopolis, Wyoming before moving to Columbia Falls.
Bev worked as a nurse at the Veterans Home and Immanuel Lutheran home when she wasn’t a stay at home mom. Not only did she raise her own four children, she took in many foster children, most newborn babies. Bev was a strong, passionate soul who loved taking care of others. She volunteered around the community, including at church, the Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and the Columbia Falls Senior Center.
After retiring, she and Carol traveled every spring to Arizona to volunteer at the Mariners spring training camp. Bev was an avid Mariners and Seahawks fan and watched every game she could. During her free time, she enjoyed bowling, softball, crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, playing cards and listening to the Jammers play at the Senior Center. She loved mochas, John Deere tractors, hummingbirds and going for drives in the country.
Bev is survived by children: BJ Kavanaugh (Ross), Leslie A. Sorensen, and Mary L. Sorensen (Robert Smith); seven grandchildren: Sam, Nick, Hailey, Jessica, Brad, Andrew and Matthew; three great-grandchildren and one on the way. In addition to her parents, Bev is preceded in death by husband, Carrol Sorensen; daughter, Dawn Robison; and grandson, Ben Robison.
A celebration of Beverly Mae Sorensen’s life will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, with date to be determined. To send online condolences, please visit columbiamortuary.com.
