The Pend Oreille Arts Council announces the opening of “Light & Shadow: A Black and White Photography Exhibition,” on view Oct. 3 to Nov. 1 at the POAC Gallery, 313 N. Second Ave., in downtown Sandpoint.

The exhibition opens with a free and open to the public First Friday reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, where guests can meet the artists and experience the timeless elegance of black-and-white photography.

Featuring the work of four regional photographers, Rebecca Bozzo, Hurley Dean, Don Fisher, and Randolph Fritz, “Light & Shadow” explores the power of contrast, form, and perspective. Each artist brings a unique approach to the medium, capturing landscapes, street scenes, and portraits that reveal the beauty found in simplicity.

“Black-and-white photography invites us to slow down and notice the subtleties,” said POAC arts coordinator Claire Christy. “Without color, the emphasis shifts to texture, composition, and emotion.”

In addition to the exhibition, the evening will feature a special silent auction of work by Rebecca Bozzo, who is generously donating a portion of her proceeds to support POAC’s arts education programs, including Kaleidoscope in local schools and Art for Life classes at the Senior Center.

The Pend Oreille Arts Council is a nonprofit that exists to facilitate quality experiences in the arts through educational programs and presentations that benefit the people of North Idaho.
